Gauntlets of Power: From Start to Finish
So, I bought this lovely bright green baby alpaca/cotton yarn while in San Francisco that I knew was going to be my new winter warmth yarn. I initially planned a hat and scarf set, but I don't wear scarves super often. First, I made Knitty's Coronet hat with a cabled band. Once I was done, I decided to make gloves (inspired by IK article on making them). Since I loved the cabled band on Coronet, I made my gloves with a cabled band to match.

First off the hat. Making the cabled band was quick and easy but I had a hell of a time grafting together the ends. Look at that mess

After ripping it out several times and fiddling I managed to graft something less heinous looking. Here it is part way done when I started checking it out for size. I have a big melon head and I wanted to be sure it fit (it did without any pattern fiddling)

Hat = love.

I loved the cabled brim so much I decided to make the bottoms of the matching gloves have the same cabled pattern. So I made a shorter version of the cable (to fit around the widest part of my hand), grafted it together and then knitted 1X1 ribbing for about an inch

Then I knitted 1 row of contrasting deep reddish pink yarn and continue the glove in green. When I got to the fingers I decided to do a fibonacci striping pattern (1, 1, 2, 3, 5). Here it is with one finger done

One glove down and one to go! Making the body of these gloves went pretty fast but the striping on the fingers took awhile. I adore how it looks so oh well.

When it was all said and done, I went to a knit night at [info]coraline's place and wove in ends tilll the cows came home (almost 1am). They were dubbed gauntlets of power and they are.
